Gods Work, Our Hands.

Servant leadership was modeled by Jesus Christ when he washed His disciples' feet and declared that

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
(Mark 10:45)

Jesus also commanded us to love one another as He had loved us and told us that a tree is known by its fruit.

This command is not meant to be just words or a feeling but to be lived out in every-day actions. Furthermore, Jesus's brother James tells us

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead
(James 2:17)

Similarly, Martin Luther explained that

it is just as impossible to separate faith and works as it is to separate heat and light from fire!
(Martin Luther - "An Introduction to St. Paul's Letter to the Romans")

So, it is apparent that we as Christians (and in particular, Lutherans) are tasked with loving and serving each other with actions.

At Tierrasanta Lutheran Church we make it a priority to serve our community as per our mission statement of

Sharing Christ’s Love, Serving God’s Children, Transforming Lives, and Making Disciples.

We participate in the ELCA's National Day of Service and pay special attention to our military. We are engaged with Lutheran World Relief, quilting ministries, Third Avenue Charitable Organization (TACO ) as well as serving mission partners in Tanzania at the Maasai School 1-2-1 and spreading the gospel to remote areas in Canada with On Eagle's Wings.
